Somehow service to a friend or neighbor says more than words can say, and what better way to teach children the value of friendship, love, and service than a game!

Have you ever been lounging around the house and the doorbell rang… when everyone hurried to the door there was a surprise of treats waiting for you? It is thrilling, right!? Even as an adult, my heart wells with love and appreciation for such an act of kindness.

Granted…these days you can’t get away with much due to an increase in doorbell cameras…maybe we just have to dress up to deliver them!

If you have never played a game like this, the idea is to multiply the number of houses “Boo’d” every time a family keeps the fun going. Talk about a great opportunity to use MATH IN EVERY DAY LIFE! How many houses would be included if it were shared every 2 days for the entire month of October…

1 family shares to to 2 families, and those two families share it with 2 more families (now we’re at 4). Those 4 share it with 2 families each (we’re at 8…you’re following, right?) I think I should call in my middle schooler to tell me exactly what the equation would be.

If everyone kept it going every 2 days and it started on October 1st – 32,768 families could be reached! WHAAT!!??? Now what if more than one person started it? Mind blowing!!!

Granted, some will not continue the fun, and some will take longer than 2 days – and that’s ok! I usually don’t remember to get it started until a few days into October, but just think of the impact on your neighborhood…on your community…on the world if we take time to think of our neighbors and friends.

The second great commandment after all is, to love thy neighbor as thyself. Maybe, just maybe, it is things like this that can be light in a world of increasing darkness.

I’ve always enjoyed Halloween as a time to be with family, have fun, and make great family memories. Also, how fun is this paper bag decorated to be a mummy?! My 7-year-old made it without any prompting from me, because of her excitement to gift these to some friends.

Love you my friends! Happy October!!!
